John Clayton has a diverse work experience that spans various roles in government relations, advocacy, communications, and sustainability. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Vice President - Global Government Relations at Elevation Capital, where they lead government and regulatory affairs for the venture fund's portfolio companies. Prior to this role, they served as the Head of Global Advocacy at Ivy Farm Technologies.
Before joining Ivy Farm Technologies, John worked at BAT in several leadership positions. John served as the Global Head of Business Communications and Sustainability, Global Head of Government & External Affairs, Global Head of Regulation, Regional Head of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs for the Americas Region, Vice-President of Corporate & Regulatory Affairs, Programme Development Manager for the Global Harm Reduction Programme, and International Regulatory and Public Affairs Manager.
Additionally, John worked at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan as a Manager of Japanese Government Affairs. John has a proven track record of managing government relations and public affairs activities on a global scale.
John Clayton has a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in American History from Oberlin College. John also has a Master of Arts degree in East Asian Studies (Japanese) from Indiana University Bloomington. Additionally, they studied Japanese Language Studies at the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC).
