Xavier Cabana Puig

Xavier Cabana Puig has a diverse work experience spanning from 2008 to 2022. In 2008, they worked as a coach soccer (children) at Club Futbol Torelló, where they prepared and oversaw teaching materials. In 2010, they worked as an operator in a chemical company at Freixer Bofill y Tesem. From 2012 to 2017, they worked at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in both research and educational laboratories. In the research laboratory, they conducted modular production of recombinant therapeutics proteins and performed analytical, production and isolation protein characterization. In the educational laboratory, they performed antimicrobial preservative effectiveness testing and drug resistance. From 2014 to 2015, they worked at Eurofins as a genetics laboratory technician, where they performed genetic laboratory analyses and pilot tests for product improvement or development. From 2017 to 2022, they worked at Virginia Tech as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomedical Science (Immunology). Xavier conducted research on characterizing the roles of gut microbiota, probiotic Lactobacilli and CX3CR1. Xavier also had excellent technical skills in cell-based bioassays, immunoassays including ELISA, EIA, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, lymphocyte activation and proliferation, and cell viability assays. Currently, they are a Scientist at Elicio Therapeutics.

Xavier Cabana Puig received a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, General from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013. Xavier then went on to receive a Master's Degree in Pharmaceutics and Drug Design from Universitat de Barcelona in 2014. Currently, they are pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at Virginia Tech, which they are expected to complete in 2022.
