Jackie Mettler

Research Associate II at Elo Life Systems

Jackie Mettler has a diverse work experience in the field of biology and genetics. Jackie started as a Lab Assistant at Environmental Genetics and Genomics in 2016, where they optimized soil DNA extraction methods and maintained lab machines. In 2017, they became a Post-Baccalaureate Researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where they improved Agrobacterium-mediated transformation on Prairie Cordgrass and optimized CRISPR-Cas9/Cpf1 editing in eukaryotic production algae strains. Jackie continued their research at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Graduate Student Researcher, earning a Masters in Biology while developing a promoter library for an industrially-valuable algae strain. Later, they worked as a Post Masters Researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where they conducted further research. From 2021 to 2022, Jackie worked at Curie Co as a Research Associate and then as a Strain Engineering Scientist. Currently, they are a Research Associate II at Elo Life Systems since March 2023.

Jackie Mettler has a diverse educational background in the field of biology and bioinformatics. Jackie obtained a Master's degree in Biology, General from The University of New Mexico in 2020. Prior to that, they completed a dual Bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry from Northern Arizona University between 2013 and 2016. In 2011 and 2012, Jackie attended California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they studied Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering but did not obtain a degree.

In addition to their formal education, Jackie has also pursued additional certifications in bioinformatics. In 2020, they completed courses such as "Comparing Genes, Proteins, and Genomes (Bioinformatics III)", "Genome Sequencing (Bioinformatics II)", and "Finding Hidden Messages in DNA (Bioinformatics I)" through Coursera.
