Richard A. Berman

Interim Director of the Patel College of Global Sustainability; Visiting Professor of Social Entrepreneurship, Muma College of Business; and Professor, Institute for Innovation & Advanced Discovery, University of South Florida. -- Richard A. Berman has served as a director of EmblemHealth since 2006, and was a director of HIP from 1996 to 2006. He is a Visiting Social Entrepreneurship Professor at the Muma College of Business, and a Professor for the Institute for Advanced Discovery & Innovation. He was the Interim Dean of the Patel College of Global Sustainability from 2015-2017, at the University of South Florida. Mr. Berman was the President and CEO of LICAS, Inc., a K-12, college and university and health care consulting firm that he founded in 2009. He was elected to membership of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine) in 1986. He has served as a senior advisor to the Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He received two Fulbright Specialist Program grants to work in Uganda and Rwanda. Mr. Berman was also a consultant to the Joint Special Representative of the African Union/United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur. He was President of Manhattanville College from 1995 to 2009. He was a member of the Board of Westchester County Medical Corporation from 1998 until 2009, and served as Chairman of its Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009. Mr. Berman served as a health care specialist for Korn-Ferry International from 1990 to 1991 and for McKinsey & Company from 1987 to 1990. Mr. Berman was a trustee of the State University of New York (SUNY) from 1993-1995. He also served as an Executive Vice President of New York University Medical Center from 1983 to 1986, served as the Commissioner of the Division of Housing and Community Renewal for New York State from 1981 to 1983, and was the Director of the New York State Office of Health Systems Management from 1977 to 1980. Mr. Berman was the Chairman of the Board of Seeds of Peace from 2007-2012 and a board member since 2003. Mr. Berman was also a board member of Lillian Vernon Corporation, a publicly traded direct mail company, from 1997 to 2003.
