YaYa Shang

Director of Design at Emerald Cloud Lab

YaYa Shang has over twelve years of professional experience in design and research. YaYa began their career in 2006 as a Researcher at the Aquarium of the Pacific, where they researched and evaluated current conservation practices, helped publish quarterly reports on sustainability and aquaculture, and researched and contacted potential donors and grantors. In 2008, they worked as a Graphic Artist at On the Edge Marketing, and in 2009 they were a Graphic Designer at Maxim Manufacturing & Marketing, where they developed identity and branding for individual products and product families, produced promotional ads and prepress for trade shows and product launches, and designed layout and graphics for print. From 2007 to 2011, YaYa Shang worked as a Freelance Designer, designing websites and mobile UI, creating wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, and prototyping and developing with html, css, and flash. In 2011, they were a User Experience Designer at Plastic Logic. From 2012 to 2014, they were a Senior Experience Architect at Organic, where they designed compelling interaction methods, developed digital concepts, and helped implement and evolve multi-platform experiences. YaYa also produced design artifacts for project deliverables, such as annotated mock-ups, interactive wireframes, user interface elements, and interaction workflows. From 2014 to 2016, YaYa Shang worked at Intel Corporation as a Sr. User Experience Designer, where they created experiences for advanced imaging applications with Intel RealSense technology in the photography and camera family with a focus on computer vision, enhanced photography, research, and robotics. YaYa was integral in the team that brought the Dell Venue 8 7000 tablet to market within a year and created iterative designs that met product objectives. From 2016 to present, YaYa Shang has been the Director of Design and Lead Designer at Emerald Cloud Lab.

YaYa Shang earned a BA in Biology from the University of California, Berkeley between 2002 and 2005. YaYa then went on to obtain an MFA in Design from the California College of the Arts between 2009 and 2011.
