EMERGE
Liz Edwards, M.Ed. has diverse work experience across various organizations. From 2021 to present, they served as the Director of Marketing and Communications at EMERGE. Prior to that, they were the Assistant Director at the Houston Coalition Against Hate from 2019 to 2021, where their responsibilities included online marketing strategies, content creation, fundraising, and program development. From 2016 to 2021, Liz was self-employed as a Social Justice Educator and Consultant, leading workshops and programs on racial justice. Liz also held the role of Development Coordinator/Grants Manager at Child Advocates, Inc. from 2009 to 2012, where they successfully secured grants. Earlier in their career, Liz worked as a Reporter for the Houston Chronicle and the Associated Press, covering various news beats.
Liz Edwards, M.Ed., completed their Bachelor of Science in Journalism (BSJ) from Northwestern University, where they studied from 1998 to 2002. In 2013, they pursued a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Elementary Curriculum and Instruction from Houston Christian University, which took their until 2015 to complete.

EMERGE's mission is to develop high-achieving students from underserved communities to be the next generation of leaders by preparing them to apply, attend, and graduate from the nation's top colleges and universities. EMERGE offers a student-to-college counselor ratio of 60:1 allowing staff members to work closely with students and their families to ensure success. EMERGE is an innovator among college access organizations nationwide and partners with selective schools that yield higher than average graduation rates and provides substantial financial aid for first-generation students from low-income communities. EMERGE scholars earn college degrees at 10x the national average for students from low-income, under-resourced communities.
