Shahani Markus

Shahani Markus has a long and impressive work history. Starting in 1991, they held various academic and research appointments at multiple universities. In 2001, they became Head of Engineering/Chief Software Architect at Virtusa, Sri Lanka. In 2002, they became a Board of Management Member at the University of Colombo School of Computing. In 2006, they were Chief Technology Officer at the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka. In 2010, they were Adviser to the Royal Government of Bhutan at the Ministry of Information and Communications. In 2012, they were a Senior eGovernance Consultant at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In 2013, they were a Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. In 2014, they were an Adjunct Staff Member at Carnegie Mellon University in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA. Shahani was also Interim CTO at Baycoins LLC, Co-Founder at 1 Billion Tech and Co-Founder at MillionSpaces. Finally, they were Founder, CTO and Chairperson at Emojot Inc., and Founder, CEO and Chairperson at the same company.

Shahani Markus has a diverse educational background which includes a Ph.D. in Computer Science, an M.S. in Computer Science and an M.S. in Mathematics from Purdue University, a Diploma in Computer Systems Design from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM), Secondary and High School from Vishaka Vidyalaya in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Primary and Secondary School from Ladies' College. Additionally, Markus holds a Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and a Professional Development in Learning, Teaching and Assessing from the Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) in the UK.
