Michelle Banik

Director at Empire Company

Michelle Banik is the current Director at Empire Company. Prior to their current position, Banik held the position of Chief People Officer/ Global Head of Human Resources at OMERS, a public pension plan with over $100B in assets under management. At OMERS, Banik was responsible for executing on a number of key global initiatives, driving the People & Culture agenda forward during a significant period of global growth.

Banik also has experience as a Board of Director/ Executive Committee member for Toronto Finance International, a public-private partnership between Canada’s largest financial services institutions and the government. In this role, Banik worked with TFI’s stakeholders on initiatives which drove the growth and competitiveness of the industry.

Banik holds a degree from Western University.

Michelle Banik has a Bachelor of Arts from Western University, a Post Graduate Certificate in Diversity & Inclusion from Cornell University, and Executive Education from The Ivey Academy at Ivey Business School. Michelle also has a The Directors College Chartered Director Program (C.Dir) from DeGroote School of Business - McMaster University, and a Certificate in Adult Learning and Development (practicum outstanding) from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. Michelle is also certified by the University of Alberta in Indigenous Canada, IDEO U in Design Thinking, and HRPA - Human Resources Professionals Association in Certified Human Resources Executive (CHRE), Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
