Jim was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, and earned an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. He moved to Atlanta in 1982 and joined Empire in 1986. He has been active in the Atlanta community, serving as Treasurer on the boards for the Center for Puppetry Arts and Ansley Golf Club.
