George Swede

George Swede is a distinguished figure in the fields of poetry and psychology, renowned as a co-founder of Haiku Canada from 1977 to 2021. Swede's contributions as an independent poet, editor, and critic include serving as the former editor of Frogpond: Journal of the Haiku Society of America from 2008 to 2012, where substantial poetry and prose selection, editing, and layout work were accomplished, alongside the addition of the journal to notable bibliographies. In academia, Swede held the title of Professor Emeritus at Ryerson University from September 2006, following a notable tenure in the Department of Psychology, including serving as chair from 1998 to 2003. Educational qualifications include a B.A. in Psychology from The University of British Columbia and an M.A. from Dalhousie University.
