Dirk Long has over 12 years of experience in the energy storage field. Dirk started their career in 2009 as a Research Engineer - Energy Storage at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. In 2013, they moved to ABSL Space Products as a Project Engineer - Battery Systems. In 2015, they joined Apple as a Product Design Engineer - Battery System Safety. In 2017, they joined Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. as a Global Energy Storage Engineering Manager, Engineering Manager - Energy Storage, and Systems Engineer - Energy Storage. In 2018, they founded Battery Collective, a private, members-only community for people working to improve the way our world stores energy. Dirk also worked at BiaChor as a Principal Engineer. In 2020, they joined Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) as a Principal Technical Leader - Energy Storage and Senior Technical Leader - Energy Storage. Most recently, in 2022, they were appointed as the VP of Energy Storage at Emporia.
Dirk Long obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering Physics from Miami University, and an Associate of Arts (A.A.) from Clark College. Additionally, Dirk has obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in February 2020, and is a Professional Engineer (PE) certified by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
