Michael Knowles

Michael Knowles possesses extensive legal experience in the insurance and finance sectors, currently serving as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at Empower since April 2013. In this role, Michael specializes in the legal aspects of group and individual annuities, including compliance with retirement plan regulations and prospectus filings. Prior to Empower, Michael was a Compliance Consultant in the Retirement Plans Division at Mutual of Omaha, where responsibilities included drafting and ensuring compliance for annuity contracts. Michael's legal career began as a Law Clerk and later an Associate at Kinney Law, focusing on trial and corporate documentation. Additionally, Michael contributed to legal education as a Torts Tutor at Creighton University School of Law, where a Juris Doctor was earned cum laude. An undergraduate degree in Legal Studies and Business was obtained from the University of St. Thomas.
