Jefferson Puerta has a diverse work experience in the field of systems engineering and microfluidics. Jefferson began their career as an Undergraduate Research Fellow at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, where they fabricate microfluidic devices and optimizes protocols for fabricating thin porous PDMS membranes used in Organ-on-Chips. Jefferson then joined Emulate, Inc. as an Undergraduate Associate Engineer, where they developed models for the small intestine and performed experiments on Intestine-on-Chip models. Jefferson later advanced to the role of Microfluidics Engineer, where they designed and tested new prototypes for engineering functionality and biological function of instrumentation. As a Senior Systems Engineer and later an Associate Director of Systems Engineering at Emulate, Inc., Jefferson led instrumentation development projects, translated user needs into system requirements, and worked across multiple disciplines to nurture the overall system design of products. Currently, Jefferson serves as the Director of Systems Engineering at Emulate, Inc.
Jefferson Puerta attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2015, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. Additionally, they obtained a certification in "Architecture and Systems Engineering: Models and Methods to Manage Complex Systems" from MIT xPRO in June 2021.
