Francesca Mercuri has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Francesca began their career as a Research Assistant at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia from January 1993 to December 1994. Francesca then worked as a Wellcome Trust Travelling Fellow at the University of East Anglia from March 2000 to March 2002. Francesca joined the Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research and Public Health (Burnet Institute) in October 2005 as a Microbicide Research/Project Officer. In this role, they managed and facilitated the Burnet Institute's involvement in the VivaGel Microbicide Development Consortium. From 2003 to 2006, Francesca served as an NH&MRC Australian Training Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Francesca then took on various roles at the University of Melbourne, including HIV Program Project Officer from February 2005 to December 2009, Influenza Program Project Manager from January 2010 to December 2019, and Academic Advisor starting from January 2020. Additionally, Francesca has been actively involved with Ena Respiratory Pty Ltd since September 2017, working as a Project Manager until March 2019 and currently as the Director of Operations. Francesca has taken on this role at Ena Therapeutics, a subsidiary of Ena Respiratory, which focuses on developing innovative immunomodulators for respiratory infections.
Francesca Mercuri began their education in 1989 at Monash University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science honours (BSc) degree in Biochemistry and Immunology. Francesca successfully completed their degree in 1992. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Melbourne in 1995 to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the field of Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology. Francesca completed their PhD in 1999, thereby concluding their formal education.
