Elissa Charbonneau

Elissa Charbonneau is the Chief Medical Officer at Encompass Health. Elissa has over 25 years of experience as a physiatrist, specializing in nonoperative management of neck and back pain and electrodiagnostics.

Previously, they were the Director of the Division of Rehab Medicine at Maine Medical Center, where they also worked as a part-time physiatrist in the Spine Center. Before that, they were the Medical Director at HealthSouth and also at OA Centers for Orthopaedics.

In addition to their clinical work, Dr. Charbonneau is also experienced in hospital administration, having served as the Medical Director of New England Rehabilitation Hospital for over 20 years. In this role, they were responsible for ensuring that appropriate patients were admitted for rehabilitation, overseeing the medical staff, and participating in utilization and quality performance review.

Elissa Charbonneau has a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from Cornell University. Elissa also has a D.O. from the New York Institute of Technology in Osteopathic Medicine/Osteopathy. Elissa completed their Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Temple University and their Master of Science in Epidemiology at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. Elissa also has a Rotating Internship from Peninsula Hospital Center in Rotating Internship. Finally, they have a Bachelor of Science - BS in Biology, General from Cornell University. Elissa is certified from the AOBPMR in American Osteopathic Board of Rehabilitation Medicine and from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
