Meg VanderLaan creates marketing and communications strategies that become blueprints for transforming brands, shaping culture, and revealing the heroes in any business. As chief marketing officer at Encore Electric, VanderLaan considers herself a “storyteller” whose innovations in marketing strategy and communication match her drive and commitment to delivering remarkable outcomes.
As a member of the executive leadership team at Encore, VanderLaan leads the company’s marketing and communications program, provides thought leadership, and guides decision-making. Her reputation for results grew through her work in large, global organizations in roles such as chief communications officer at MWH Global (now Stantec). She also held leadership roles in marketing and public relations at Gates Corporation, a dot-com startup and companies in the healthcare industry.
VanderLaan serves as a member of the board of trustees for her alma mater, Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, and was the school’s commencement speaker in 2015, where she was awarded an honorary doctorate. She also serves on the board of directors for the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, City Year Denver, and the Dominican Home Health Agency. Previously, she was a member of the board of directors for Downtown Denver Partnership’s Denver Civic Ventures. VanderLaan has been a frequent speaker on the topics of mentoring, leadership, women in business, and crisis communications.
In 2016, VanderLaan was named Business Marketer of the Year by the Business Marketing Association Colorado Chapter, and one of the 25 Most Powerful Women in Colorado by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She was also named Business Person of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America in 2015, and the 2014 Outstanding Woman in Business in Media, PR, and Communications by the Denver Business Journal.
