Professor Lui Pao Chuen is currently an advisor to the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister's Office and to six other Ministries. He is a consultant to Ministry of Defense, Singapore (MINDEF). He is a member of the board of trustees of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He has retired in 2008 and last served as the Chief Defence Strategist in MINDEF.
Professor Lui is a board member at Tropical Marine Science Institute and the Centre for Remote
Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP) in National University of Singapore (NUS), NUS High School Board of Governors and the Centre of Quantum Technologies. He was the Chairman of Singapore Technologies Dynamics, along with the Sembcorp Design and Construction. He was a board member of ST Kinetics and ST Electronics.
Prof. Lui is a Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering.
Prof. Lui was appointed as Singapore's first Chief Defense Scientist in 1986. In 2015, Prof. Lui received the inaugural Defence Technology Medal (Outstanding Service) from the Minister for Defence. He had previously received the Public Administration Gold Medal in 1992 and the Long Service Award in 1997 and the National Science & Technology Medal in 2002.
