John Newman has a diverse work experience in the energy industry. John has held various positions at different companies throughout their career. John started at Northern Electric & Gas as an Electricity Trading Manager, where they built and managed a trading team and a 24-hour shift team during the transition from the E&W Electricity Pool to NETA. John then joined Energia as an Energy Purchasing Manager, responsible for building and managing a Front Office team. John played a crucial role in shaping Ireland's energy regulatory environment as the Director of Trading & Regulation at Energia, leading successful legal and statutory challenges against inappropriate regulatory decisions. Currently, they are the Managing Director Flex Gen, Trading & Asset Management at Energia. Additionally, they have served as a Director and Chair of the Board at the Electricity Association of Ireland, representing the electricity sector operating within the Single Electricity Market.

John Newman has a diverse education history. In 1991, they attended Northumbria University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, completing their studies in 1994. After a long gap, in 2019, they enrolled in the Institute of Directors (IoD) and earned a Certificate in Company Direction. Later that same year, they also obtained a Diploma in Company Direction from the IoD. Additionally, John has acquired several certifications related to their studies. In July 2019, they received a Certificate in Company Direction from the IoD. In November 2019, they obtained a Diploma in Company Direction from the same institution. Finally, in July 2021, they became a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
