James Petrie has a diverse range of work experience in the legal field. James began their career as an Articling Student at Bennett Jones LLP in 1995 and later worked as an Associate at Petrie Richmond Goss law firm from 1996 to 1999. In 2000, they became a Partner at Stewart McKelvey until 2004 when they joined Plaza REIT as an Executive Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer, and General Counsel. James Petrie recently became the Chief Legal Officer at Énergie NB Power in October 2020.

James Petrie completed their education at the University of New Brunswick from 1987 to 1995. James earned a BBA, LLB, and LL.M. with a focus on Business and Law. Additionally, they also attended Duke University during this time to further their studies in Business and Law.
