Adam James

MD & Head, Customer Experience at Energy Impact Partners

Adam James is Managing Director, Customer Experience at Energy Impact Partners. His areas of expertise include business strategy and operations, electricity market regulation, and new market entry. Adam is also the co-founder and Board Chair of the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI), a non-profit dedicated to empowering diverse young professionals for leadership positions in the clean energy field.

Adam joined EIP from Tesla Energy where he managed special projects and new global initiatives. In that role, he drove improvements in a variety of critical areas – including Tesla’s global channel sales program, the residential energy business in Mexico, and the disaster response in Puerto Rico – as well as developing new programs to scale deployments.

Prior, to SolarCity, he was the Deputy Director for Global Strategy, responsible for international market development and policy. He led the development of SolarCity’s global strategy across all segments and worked on early business development including M&A opportunities and utility partnerships.

As a Senior Analyst with GTM Research, Adam led the global downstream solar research practice, including the successful launch of the company’s market-leading Latin America practice; working closely with startup CEOs and utilities in the region, and providing consultation services to Boards and Executives on market entry.

His first job in the energy space was with the Center for American Progress where we worked on the Energy & Environment team with a focus on climate negotiations and clean energy policy.

Adam received his B.A. in Philosophy from George Mason University, where he competed nationally for the policy debate team. Adam is an avid cyclist and reader.
