Alvaro Sanz, CFA CEng has a diverse and extensive work experience in the energy sector. Alvaro is currently serving as the Global Head of Development at ENERSIDE ENERGY, where they lead the development of solar, wind, and battery storage projects across the Americas and Europe. In this role, they are responsible for assessing new opportunities, pursuing greenfield M&A deals, managing development teams, obtaining necessary agreements and permits, and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
Prior to their current role, Alvaro worked at Thermion as the Director of Construction & Operations. Here, they ensured the construction of high-quality assets, monitored investment performance, and pursued new investment opportunities in the region. Alvaro also served as an Engineering Manager, overseeing the technical aspects of acquiring and developing a renewable energies' portfolio in Mexico.
Before joining Thermion, Alvaro was employed at InterEnergy as a Development Manager, where they identified, evaluated, and executed power generation acquisitions in Latin America and the Caribbean. Alvaro played a crucial role in the financial modelling, deal structuring, and negotiation of successful deals.
Alvaro's earlier experience includes working at CB&I as an Offshore/Onshore Engineer in the power generation and oil & gas sector. Alvaro also served as a PMO in the Energy Division at ELECNOR, managing power generation projects and assessing new business opportunities.
Throughout their career, Alvaro has demonstrated expertise in project management, engineering, deal analysis, and stakeholder management. Alvaro holds the CFA and CEng designations, highlighting their professional qualifications in finance and engineering.
Alvaro Sanz, CFA CEng, pursued their education in a chronological manner. Alvaro began by obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de Cantabria between 2005 and 2010. Following this, from 2007 to 2009, they participated in an education abroad program focused on Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. In 2012, Alvaro attended ICEX-CECO and received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
In addition to their educational background, Alvaro has also obtained several certifications. In October 2020, they became a Chartered Energy Engineer through the Energy Institute. Similarly, during the same time period, they obtained the title of Chartered Engineer from the Engineering Council. More recently, in July 2022, Alvaro achieved the prestigious designation of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute.
