Tim Carpenter

CEO & Founder at EngAGE

Mr. Carpenter founded EngAGE in 1999 and the organization has grown to be one of the best practices models in the country for the delivery of programs in affordable housing.

Tim catalyzed the creation of the Burbank Senior Artists Colony, a first-of-its-kind senior apartment community with high-end arts amenities and programs. There are now seven arts colonies in operation and more in development, and the model has become an all-ages flagship of creative living for elders, families and children in multigenerational arts colonies. Over the past several years, Tim has been invited to speak about the model across the U.S. and internationally in Canada, Scotland, Ireland, Amsterdam, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Tim also served as the host/producer of the EXPERIENCE TALKS radio show for 16 years and the show was re-created in 2020 as a ZoomCast. The show shines a light on the value of experience in society and highlights stories of people who bridge generations and create positive outlooks on aging.

In 2008, Tim was elected an Ashoka Fellow for his work as a social entrepreneur, and in 2011 he received the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award. He was awarded a Stanton Fellowship by the Durfee Foundation for 2016-17 and a Durfee Sabbatical Fellowship for 2021-22. He was named one of Next Avenue’s 2016 Influencers in Aging. In 2020, Tim was appointed to California Governor Gavin Newsom’s task force on Alzheimer’s to create solutions in the aging arena in the state. Tim serves on the board of Arts for LA, the premiere arts lobbying and policy organization in Southern California, and he serves as an Advisor to The Purpose Xchange, based in London.
