Jim Thorson

Jim Thorson is a Director at ENGAGE. Jim has also served as Principal at Free Radical Ventures, LLC, where they provided seed investment, advisory, and mentorship for early stage opportunities. Jim also supported the growth of the energy tech community. Additionally, they have served as Director at Exum Instruments and cQuant.io, and Managing Member at Catamount Exploration, LLC and Catamount Resources, LLC.

Thorson began their career as a Geoscientist at Cody Energy, Inc. before moving to Shell Oil Company, where they worked as a Geophysicist for 12 years. Jim then transitioned to Resource Solutions, LLC as Manager of Exploration & New Ventures, and eventually became a Managing Member at Pronghorn Operating, LLC.

Throughout their career, Thorson has been involved in various aspects of the oil and gas industry, from deepwater Gulf of Mexico to the Eastern Colorado plains to the Alaska North Slope. Jim has experience with both conventional and unconventional resources, from carbonates to turbidites (and carbonate turbidites).

Jim Thorson has a Bachelor of Science in Geophysical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, with a minor in Geology. Jim is also a graduate of the Energy Fellows Institute.
