Geoff Hurst has a diverse range of work experience in various roles and industries. Geoff is currently the Immediate Past President of the Risk Engineering Society at Engineers Australia, a position they have held since 2022. Prior to this, they were the National President of the Risk Engineering Society from 2013 to 2022.

Geoff Hurst FIEAust CPEng NER has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University, obtained in 1974. Geoff also holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Victoria University, acquired from 1970-1973. In 1990-1992, Hurst pursued a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Hazard Management from Federation University Australia. Additionally, they completed a Certificate in Business from Deakin University in 1998-1999. Hurst has also obtained the title of Fellow from the Institution of Engineers Australia and is a Member of the Australian Institute of Health & Safety.
