Cian O'Dowd has a range of work experience in various industries. Cian began their career as a Financial Clerk at Unilever in 2009 and 2010, where they monitored and adjusted financial terms in transactions. Cian then worked as a Clerical Intern at Kildare County Council in 2007 and 2008, handling complaints and queries from the public. In 2012, they interned at the United Nations, where they supported the communication strategy for the UK and Ireland desk. From 2012 to 2013, they were an Industrial Relations and Human Resources Graduate Trainee at IBEC, assisting with industrial dispute resolution and contract review. In 2013, they became a Human Resources Executive at GAA, leading HR audits and improving policies. From 2014 to 2018, they worked at the Irish Medical Organisation, first as a Policy and International Affairs Officer, drafting policy position papers, and then as an Industrial Relations Officer, providing advice and representation to medical practitioners. At Powerscourt, they worked from 2018 to 2023, starting as a Consultant and later becoming a Senior Consultant in Public Relations and Public Affairs. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Public Affairs at Engineers Ireland.
Cian O'Dowd has a diverse education history. In 2020, they attended The Honorable Society of King's Inns and obtained a Degree of Barrister-at-Law. Prior to that, from 2015 to 2017, they pursued a Diploma in Legal Studies at the same institution. In 2012, Cian received an IBEC/DIT Certificate in Employment Law from Technological University Dublin. Cian continued their studies at University College Cork from 2010 to 2011 and earned a Master of Business Studies in International Public Policy and Diplomacy. Finally, from 2006 to 2010, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in History and Political Science at Trinity College Dublin.
