Kitty Porterfield

Kitty Porterfield serves as the President of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia since January 2010, focusing on empowering adults with essential English language skills. In addition, Kitty is an author of "Why School Communication Matters," a resource aimed at enhancing school-community relationships for educational leaders. With a robust background in communications and public relations for educational institutions through Porterfield & Carnes Communications, Kitty offers training in various communication strategies. As a member of the Sibling Leadership Network, advocacy for policies supporting families with adults with disabilities is a key focus. Previous roles include Director of Communications for Fairfax County Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schools, and founding Director of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, where Kitty successfully raised $1 million for college scholarships. Kitty Porterfield graduated with an AB in Government from Harvard University in 1963.
