Richard Slater has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Richard started their career as a Managed Services Engineer at Hewlett-Packard, where they provided support to internal users and assisted with UNIX to Linux platform migration. Following this, they worked as an ICT Technician at Brighton and Hove High School and as an ICT Technical Support Supervisor at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, where they managed the Technical Support department and developed bespoke software solutions.
In 2010, Slater joined Makemedia as a Senior Developer and Technical Lead, focusing on bespoke development projects and classifieds product advancement. Richard then transitioned to working as a Freelance Developer and Consultant, running their own business from 2005 to 2014.
From 2012 to 2017, Slater worked as a Senior Consultant specializing in Platform Engineering, DevOps, and Operations Support. Richard was involved in delivering high-scale Identity and Access Management solutions and leveraged technologies such as SAP Gigya, TFS, and Azure.
In 2017, Slater became a Principal Consultant, specializing in DevOps Transformation. Richard implemented DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering capabilities in various industries, including broadcasting, retail, and financial services. Richard also introduced operational risk management controls for a retail bank's cloud operating model.
Currently, Slater is the Head of Managed Services at Ensono Digital, a role they began in 2019. Richard has developed and executed a Cloud-Native Managed Services strategy, recruited and trained a team of Site Reliability Engineers, and built out compliance and security operations aligned with ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials.

Richard Slater completed their education at the University of Brighton, where they earned a BSc in Computer Science from 2000 to 2004. Prior to that, they attended Reigate College from 1998 to 2000, where they pursued A/AS Levels in Psychology, Computing, and Mathematics. Richard has also obtained several additional certifications throughout their career. In 2013, they achieved the ITIL Foundation Level certification from APMG International. In 2019, Richard obtained three certifications from Coursera: "Site Reliability Engineering: Measuring and Managing Reliability," "Cloud Architecture with GCP Specialization," and "Architecting with Google Compute Engine Specialization." Richard also earned the "Professional Cloud Architect" certification from Google in September 2019. Most recently, Richard obtained the "CKA: Certified Kubernetes Administrator" certification from The Linux Foundation in February 2020.
