Akhtar Nawaz has a diverse work background, beginning in 2012 as an intern at Karimabad Area Development Organization, where they monitored projects, conducted surveys, and analyzed data. Akhtar then worked as a Regional Monitoring Officer at Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, implementing monitoring plans and providing feedback. In 2013, they served as a Marketing and Communication Executive at CARE Foundation, where they carried out studies, monitored data collection, and designed an internship program. Akhtar also worked as a Young Development Fellow at the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, developing monitoring plans and reports for public sector projects. From 2014 to 2016, they were a Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator at USAID-DRDF, ensuring adherence to M&E protocols and accurately filling data collection tools. Akhtar then transitioned to Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan, first as a Programme Manager from 2016 to 2017 and later as a Human Resources Manager from 2017 to the present. Currently, they hold the role of Business Development Manager at Enterprise Technology Solutions since 2023.

Akhtar Nawaz completed their Matriculation in Physical Sciences from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Gilgit from the year 2003 to 2006. Following that, they pursued Pre-Engineering and obtained a degree in FSc from Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Karachi between 2006 and 2008. Later, they enrolled in Lahore University of Management Sciences to pursue a BSc (Hons.) in Economics, although the start year and end year are not provided. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications such as Introduction to Project Management from edX in March 2016, Monitoring & Evaluation: Project Management Tools from CERP-CLEAR, Lahore in October 2014, Project Identification, Appraisal and Approval, Implementation Methodologies, MS Project and Development of KPI's from Pakistan Planning and Management Institute, Islamabad in May 2014, and Millennium Development Goals: Implementation and Challenges from Pakistan Planning and Management Institute, Islamabad in January 2014.
