Julia Mason is a seasoned social-ecological systems scientist with a robust background in marine policy and sustainable seafood initiatives. Currently serving as an Atkinson-EDF Postdoctoral Fellow at the Environmental Defense Fund since December 2019, Julia Mason previously held the position of John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at NOAA Sea Grant, contributing to the Office of Senator Ed Markey. Additional experiences include conducting research for the Aquarium of the Pacific on sustainability narratives within the California swordfish fishery, co-authoring a case study on the sustainable seafood movement at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and leading curriculum development for sustainable seafood education at Real Good Fish. Julia Mason holds a PhD in Biology from Stanford University, complementing their extensive experience with roles at various prestigious organizations, including the Palau International Coral Reef Center, the National Park Service, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
