Dr Orla Nic Suibhne

Dr. Orla Nic Suibhne is an experienced professional in sustainable energy and environmental education, currently serving as the County Mentor for the SEAI Sustainable Energy Community Programme at the IT Sligo Contract Research Unit since March 2020. Dr. Nic Suibhne has held various influential roles, including Climate Ambassador at An Taisce, LECo Project Officer at the Western Development Commission, and several expert evaluator positions with the European Commission. Dr. Nic Suibhne's academic background includes a PhD in Energy Management Information Systems from University College Galway, complemented by a Graduate Certificate in Management for Sustainable Development from Dublin City University. Additionally, Dr. Nic Suibhne has a strong research history, having worked in roles that focused on renewable energy resources and community-level energy solutions.

Environmental Education Unit, An Taisce

An Taisce's Environmental Education Unit operates various national and international environmental, education and sustainability programmes throughout Ireland. The unit is the National Operator for all international environmental education programmes of FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). These programmes include the Blue Flag Award for Beaches and Marinas, Green-Schools, Green Campus, Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) and LEAF (Learning about Forests). The unit also operates a number of national programmes including the Clean Coasts programme, National Spring Clean (Ireland’s largest anti-litter campaign), the Climate Ambassador Programme and Neat Streets. In addition, it is the national assessor for IBAL (Irish Business against Litter) ‘All-Ireland Anti-Litter League’. As well as a Director and a senior management team, the Unit has over 50 full-time staff members and 10 part-time and temporary staff. The Environmental Education Unit is based off Francis St, in Dublin 8, with staff located nationwide.
