Thoma began a career in environmental management at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, where responsibilities included Voluntary Remediation Environmental Project Manager and Emergency Response/SARA Title III Environmental Scientist from February 1996 to 2001. Academia includes a Bachelor of Arts degree with double majors in Biology and History from Wabash College, attended from 1991 to 1995, and high school education from Wapahani High, completed in 1991.
