Alar Kolk has held a variety of roles in the public and private sectors since 1999. In that year, they were an Executive Officer at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications for Estonia. Alar then went on to become the Vice President and CEO of Enterprise Estonia in 2000. In 2002, they became a Senior Lecturer and Vice-Rector of Innovation and Internationalisation at the Tallinn University of Technology. In 2006, they were a Senior Adviser of Secretary General at the Ministry of Finance, and they were also a Member of the Supervisory Board for AS Andmevara and Estonian Pilot Ltd. in the same year. In 2009, they became a Member of the Supervisory Board for the Tiger Leap Foundation. From 2011 to 2017, they were the President of the European Innovation Academy. In 2017, they began working at Stanford University as a Research and Autonomous Innovation specialist with H-STAR. Most recently, in 2021, they founded and became the CEO of EpiProdux, with the company currently hiring.
Alar Kolk's education history began with a Bachelor's degree in Management (Complex Organisations: Aircraft Carriers, Space Systems) from the University of Tartu, which they completed between 1992 and 1999. Alar then pursued a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering from Tallinn University of Technology, which they completed in 2004. In the same year, they also completed MA studies in Technology Management in China, Korea and Japan at LUT University. From 2005 to 2014, they completed a PhD in Industrial Engineering at Helsinki University of Technology/Tallinn Tech. In 2008, they also completed PhD studies in Aerospace - Mars Transportation Systems Design at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Lastly, in 1998, they completed BA studies in Industrial Engineering of Complex Systems: Aircraft Carriers, Space Shuttles Systems at Linköping University.
