Equal Justice Under Law
Caroline McCance currently serves as a Staff Attorney at Equal Justice Under Law, a position held since February 2024. Prior experience includes serving as a Staff Attorney at AIDS Action Committee from November 2019 to February 2024, and a summer law clerk at the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of Boston in 2018. Additional legal experience includes a summer legal internship at the Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. Before entering the legal field, Caroline held various roles including Hostess at The Caribbean Room and Treasurer/Vice Commodore for the Tulane University Rowing Association, where responsibilities included managing budgets and fundraising. Caroline's education includes a Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law and a Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature, French, and Theatre Performance from Tulane University.

Equal Justice Under Law
The words "Equal Justice Under Law" are etched onto the façade of the United States Supreme Court. However, too often, our legal system falls short of that goal, especially for people living in poverty. Equal Justice Under Law is a national civil rights legal nonprofit dedicated to achieving equality in our justice system by challenging wealth-based discrimination and helping to end the role that government plays in continuing the cycle of poverty. We believe everyone should be treated equally, regardless of wealth-status. Unfortunately, our society currently operates two systems of justice: one for the rich and another for everyone else. Since our founding in 2014, we have litigated 30 cases challenging wealth inequality in 14 states. 18 of our cases have successfully reached settlement. Our work has achieved policy reform across 9 states and the District of Columbia & helped to fuel statewide reform efforts in California and Michigan.
