Vice President For Civil Rights And Systemic Litigation at Equip for Equality

Sujatha Branch has extensive experience in civil rights and advocacy work. Sujatha started their career as a Staff Attorney at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, where they focused on community economic development and public benefits advocacy. Sujatha then joined the Child Care Law Center as a Senior Staff Attorney, providing legal assistance and leading coalitions addressing child care subsidies, disabilities, and other related matters.

Branch later joined Disability Rights California as an Associate Managing Attorney, where they supervised attorneys and represented clients in class action litigation. Sujatha also served as the co-coordinator of Disability Rights California's statewide health care and public benefits advocacy, leading strategic planning and mentoring attorneys.

In 2016, Branch became the Directing Attorney for the Children and Youth Project at Columbia Legal Services, managing a team focused on systemic advocacy for issues like health care, homelessness, and juvenile justice. Sujatha also worked as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of California, Davis - School of Law.

Branch then joined the Northwest Justice Project as a Statewide Advocacy Counsel, providing strategic leadership and coordination for systemic advocacy across Washington state. Sujatha also designed and implemented training series for attorneys.

Currently, Branch is the Vice President for Civil Rights and Systemic Litigation at Equip for Equality, where they continue their work in civil rights and systemic litigation.

Sujatha Branch has obtained a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree from Columbia Law School. Prior to that, Sujatha Branch completed a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree with a double major in Sociology and English at The Ohio State University. In terms of additional certifications, Sujatha Branch became a member of the Washington State Bar Association in January 2017. Furthermore, Sujatha Branch has been admitted to practice in multiple U.S. District Courts, including the Eastern District of Washington, Eastern District of California, Southern District of California, and Northern District of California. Sujatha Branch is also admitted to practice in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and holds an inactive membership with the State Bar of California.
