Aaron J. Stenta

Group Head, Consulting Researcher I & Consulting Engineer I at Equity Engineering Group

Dr. Stenta joined the Applied Research & Development Team at E2G | The Equity Engineering Group, Inc. in May 2015 as a Senior Researcher. As a member of this team, his focus is on researching, developing, and advancing current and emerging technologies and software products, improving consulting services, and revising industry standards. Dr. Stenta initiated the extension of E2G’s software and technologies to federal government opportunities via small business contracts and research grants. Through this initiative, Dr. Stenta was awarded a Phase 1 & 2 SBIR grant for the development of a software platform, termed CAN2, for life-cycle decision optimization of spent nuclear fuel canisters subject to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.

Dr. Stenta has played a key role in the development of the recently updated Part 14 of API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, in-depth supporting bulletin (WRC 550), and supplemental FFS-2 examples document on the standardization of fatigue methods for use in the pressure vessels and piping industries. With recent advancements in computational efficiency, this work takes an algorithmic approach to present, demonstrate, and validate these procedures. Additionally, Dr. Stenta continues to work with the team on the development of modern computational methods for the delivery of the company’s advanced software and technology through E2G’s web-based platform: The Equity Engineering Cloud. He has also developed tools and best practices for determining the extent of microstructural transformation in LDPE reactor tubes following a thermal excursion and subsequently estimating the remaining life.

While at The University of Akron, Dr. Stenta had the opportunity to collaborate, through research, with various government and industry affairs, such as the Department of Defense, Aerospace, Automotive, and Oil and Gas. Dr. Stenta has incorporated the corrosion modeling algorithms that he developed while at The University of Akron into advanced decision-making tools for the company’s internal and external corrosion applications. Many of these tools utilize Bayesian Networks to account for inherent uncertainties and combine the physics-based aspects of the problems with practical engineering guidance for day-to-day decision support. Dr. Stenta also utilizes his higher education in corrosion and chemical engineering to assist the Materials & Corrosion Group with various projects, such as specialty corrosion and cathodic protection consulting, and RBI and E2G Practices support, including the development of CCDs and IOWs.
