James Dawson

James Dawson has extensive experience in local government and community engagement, currently serving as the Leader of the Council and Leader of the Labour Group at Erewash Borough Council since May 2011. Dawson represents the Abbotsford Ward and has held various leadership positions, including Deputy Leader of the Labour Group and Shadow Executive Member for Resources. Additionally, Dawson is a member of the Board of Trustees for Friends of Bennerley Viaduct, serves on the Local Government Association's Safer, Stronger Communities Board, and is the East Midlands Representative for the Association of Labour Councillors. Dawson has also held governance roles at multiple junior schools in Ilkeston and was previously a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Amber Valley. Educational background includes attendance at Lakeview Sixth Form College and George Spencer Foundation School.
