Augustine Boakye

Dr. Augustine Boakye is Essex County College’s 9th President, assuming the leadership position on July 21, 2020. Dr. Boakye started his Essex County College career in 2009 as an Associate Professor of Economics. In 2013, he was named Chair of the Division of Business. For the past year, he has served as Acting Dean of Liberal Arts and Business while also continuing his role as Business Division Chair.

Dr. Boakye is the former Regional Chair of Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and continues to represent Region 1 at the ACBSP national level. He has provided educational consultancy services and worked in many higher educational institutions including New Jersey Institute of Technology, Strayer University, Rider University, and Brookdale Community College.

Having served as an educator for two decades, an Academic Dean, a Chairperson, a Consultant and Regional leader of ACBSP Accreditation, Dr. Boakye has exemplified true leadership in his career and loves to share educational best practices and engage community members to be well educated. Dr. Boakye recently received the International Teaching Excellence Award from the International Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). While serving as Business Division Chair, Dr. Boakye spearheaded efforts in securing accreditation from the ACBSP, one of only two community colleges in the state to be so recognized.

Dr. Boakye brings to his new position international teaching, research, and working experiences. He recently received the International Teaching Excellence Award of ACBSP at the Associate Degree level.

Under the leadership of Dr. Boakye, Essex County College received the American Bar Association (ABA) Extension Approval for the Paralegal Program (A.S.). Also, he championed the creation of new academic programs such as the A.S. in Finance, A.S. in Supply Chain Management (SCM), Certificate in SCM/Logistics & Business Professional Certificate. He also introduced Business Week, the Business Plan Competition, and championed Financial Literacy in the College. Dr. Boakye has served as an Advisor of the Student Government Association (SGA) since fall 2011.

He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.
