Derek Swan

Derek Swan serves as the Chief Technology Officer at EssilorLuxottica since February 2025, having previously held the same position at Optos from February 2002 to February 2025, where additional roles included Vice President of Research and various research director positions. Prior experience also includes a role as Development Engineer - Subsystems at Kymata in 2002 and as a Research Associate at Edinburgh Napier University from January 1999 to January 2001. Derek Swan earned a BSc (Hons) in Laser Physics from the University of St Andrews between 1993 and 1997, followed by an MSc in Optoelectronics & Laser Devices from Heriot-Watt University from 1997 to 1998, having completed secondary education at Drummond High from 1987 to 1993.
