Etana Energy is a South African majority black-controlled clean electricity trader that supplies electricity generated by renewable energy projects to business customers in South Africa. Under its NERSA-issued electricity trading license, Etana buys electricity generated by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and prosumers and sells this to customers connected to Eskom’s grid, and where wheeling arrangements have been put in place, the municipal distribution network. This currently includes Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and the City of Cape Town. Etana’s customers benefit from certified low-carbon electricity at prices competitive with Eskom or municipal tariffs, forward price certainty, flexible contract terms and durations, and qualifying B-BEEE expenditure. IPPs get a bankable long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Etana, which assumes and manages the allocation and settling of electricity bills with customers and Network Operators, and the customer credit risk in its customer pool. Etana’s shareholders are H1 Holdings and Chariot Transitional Power. They bring a wealth of relevant experience from the renewable energy and electricity trading industries. Etana has offices in Cape Town, Gqeberha and Johannesburg.
