Scott Avelino

Chief Ethics Officer at Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI)

Scott Avelino has extensive experience in the field of ethics and compliance. Scott started their career as an Associate Consultant at the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI), where they advised on corporate turnarounds and conducted benchmarking research. Scott then joined KPMG as a Principal in Forensic Services, leading efforts to prevent and respond to fraud and misconduct.

In 2010, Scott became a Principal at Compliance Systems Legal Group, where they advised organizations on establishing effective corporate governance practices and compliance programs. Scott also provided independent monitoring of compliance settlement agreements with the government.

In 2016, Scott served as the Interim Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at the International Rescue Committee, leading the establishment of an ethics and compliance function to combat fraud and human rights abuses. Scott reported to the CEO and the Audit Committee and worked closely with major government donors and law enforcement.

In 2017, Scott joined the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI) again, but this time as the Chief Ethics Officer. Currently, they are the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at Relief International, overseeing compliance efforts in high-risk settings and leading resolution efforts with the US and EU governments following a sanctions violation.

Throughout their career, Scott has demonstrated their expertise in promoting business integrity, establishing compliance programs, and mitigating risks in challenging environments.

Scott Avelino has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Cornell University. Prior to their master's degree, they completed their undergraduate education at UC Santa Barbara, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.
