Shanil Gunasekara

Shanil Gunasekara has a long and varied work experience. Shanil began their career in 2009 as an Office Administrator for Corporate IT Resources, where they displayed excellent organizational skills by performing cash management services, monitoring time sheets and project worksheets for IT professionals, and increasing management's efficacy and saving funds by repairing malfunctioning hardware and maintaining company servers and website. In 2010, they gained experience in the technical and practical aspects of a heart-lung machine in the lab and on-site at a large modern hospital by shadowing a senior engineer over a one-month period, and received hands-on instruction in organizational structure and design of Sri Lanka's leading pharmaceutical company by training under divisional heads of sales, finance and engineering, as a Consulting Intern for Hemas Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd. In 2011, they were a Lab Volunteer for the National History Museum of Los Angeles County - Marine Biodiversity, and a Medical Device Consultant and Medical Device Consultant, Associate for Lumedica Consultants Inc. In 2014, they Co-Founded and became CEO of eTreatMD, where they grew and led the company into an award-winning, globally recognized digital health pioneer, positively transforming the lives of people suffering with chronic conditions, and the businesses that help them. Shanil also led the development of innovative digital health applications using machine-learning models, artificial intelligence algorithms and smartphone-based medical imaging, and led product and project management, expertly ensuring that marketing and technical teams collaborated to build the best products possible for users. In 2022, they became the Director of Ecosystem / Product Partnership for Hootsuite.

Shanil Gunasekara attended Royal College from 1995 to 2001, Colombo International School from 2001 to 2007, and the University of Southern California from 2007 to 2011, where they earned a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering.
