Remko Scharroo

Altimetry Project Scientist at EUMETSAT

Remko Scharroo has a diverse work experience in the field of remote sensing and satellite systems. Remko started their career as a Research Assistant/Associate at Delft University of Technology in 1989, where they worked until 1997. During this time, they conducted research in satellite systems and instrumentation and supervised Master's and PhD students. In 1997, they became an Assistant Professor at the same university and taught lectures on various topics including celestial orbit mechanics, introduction to remote sensing, and geophysical satellite instrumentation.

In 2003, Remko joined NOAA as a Visiting Scientist and later became a Research Consultant in 2005, where they contributed to research projects and provided consultation services. In 2005, they also started their own company called Altimetrics LLC, where they served as the Owner until 2013.

Since 2013, Remko has been working at EUMETSAT as a Remote Sensing Scientist (Altimetry) and currently holds the position of Altimetry Project Scientist. Their responsibilities include conducting research and analysis related to altimetry and remote sensing.

Remko Scharroo has an extensive education history. Remko completed their PhD in Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology in 2002. Prior to this, they obtained their MSc in Aerospace Engineering from the same university, graduating in 1989. Remko's educational journey began at Huygens Lyceum, where they studied from 1978 to 1984. However, the specific degree earned or field of study pursued during their time at Huygens Lyceum is unknown.
