Heike Harmgart

Managing Director, Sub-saharan Africa at EBRD

Heike Harmgart is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in economic policy and regional development. Currently, Heike serves as Managing Director for both Sub-Saharan Africa and the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) since August 2006. Additional roles include being a Council Member of the WEF Global Futures Council on the New Agenda for Fragility and Resilience and a Fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. Heike also holds the position of Vice Chair on the Global Climate Council for SDG13 - Climate Action until March 2024. Previous experience includes roles at the Institute For Fiscal Studies and The Economist Intelligence Unit, along with academic positions at University College London. Heike graduated with a PhD in Economics from UCL, an MSc in Economics from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and has participated in the High Potentials Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
