Kazuhiko Koguchi

Secretary General at EBRD

Kazuhiko Koguchi took up his role as the Secretary General of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in August 2021.

The Secretary General is a member of the Executive Committee and works with the President, the Board of Governors and the Board of Directors. In addition to assuming responsibility for the EBRD Annual Meeting, the Secretary General promotes the mission of the EBRD to the Bank’s members and international institutions.

Mr Koguchi has had a long career working in government and international institutions. He started his career at the Ministry of Finance of Japan, where he held senior positions in the areas of international finance, trade and taxation. He represented his country as Executive Director at the Boards of the World Bank Group, as well as the Asian Development Bank. At the EBRD, he previously worked in the Financial Institutions team, and in country management in Central Asia.

A Japanese citizen, Mr Koguchi holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Tokyo.
