Michael Ioannidis has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Michael began their career in 2008 as a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. In 2015, they joined the Institute for Law and Finance as a Lecturer. In 2016, they worked as a Legal Counsel at the ESM - European Stability Mechanism. Michael then transitioned to the European Central Bank, where they held various roles, including Legal Counsel, Principal Legal Counsel, and currently serves as the Lead Legal Counsel. Additionally, they are a Rapporteur (Secretary) for the Committee on International Monetary Law of the International Law Association. In 2023, they will also serve as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Collegio Carlo Alberto.
Michael Ioannidis completed their education chronologically as follows:
- From 2012 to 2016, they attended Athens University of Economics and Business and obtained a Bachelor's degree in International and European Economic Studies.
- During the period of 2008 to 2012, they pursued a Ph.D. at Goethe University Frankfurt, specializing in International Economic Law and Comparative Public Law.
- In 2007, they attended the University of Cambridge for an LL.M. degree in International Economic Law, EU Law, and English Public Law.
- From 2006 to 2007, they studied at Heidelberg University and earned an LL.M. degree in German Public Law, EU Law, and Theory and Philosophy of Law.
- Lastly, from 2001 to 2005, they attended Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon, where they obtained an LL.B. degree in Law.
