Nele Eichhorn is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in trade relations, policy coordination, and interinstitutional relations within the European Commission since September 2005. Currently serving as the Head of Unit in DG TRADE, Eichhorn focuses on trade relations with Southern neighbours, the Middle East, Türkiye, Russia, Belarus, and Central Asia, as well as trade sanctions. Previous roles include Deputy Head of Unit and Cabinet Member for prominent officials, where responsibilities encompassed foreign and security policy coordination and policy development in the Internal Market and Competitiveness area. Eichhorn's earlier experience as a diplomat at the Permanent Representation of Estonia to the EU involved economic affairs related to enterprise and industry policy and consumer protection. Educational qualifications include a Master's degree in European Studies from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and further studies in Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Tartu and Maastricht University.
