European Data Protection Supervisor
Luis Velasco is the Head of Unit of Technology and Privacy at the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) since September 2022, focusing on integrating technological aspects of data protection within the organization. Prior to this role, Luis served as Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission from 2012 to 2022, and held various positions within the EDPS, including Data Protection Policy Officer, where attention was given to legislative instruments related to technology. Experience also includes roles as IT Project Manager at the European Commission’s DGEMPL, Head of Unit eJustice at Red.es, Senior Telecom Management Consultant at Oliver Wyman, and Project Manager at British Telecom. Luis's educational background includes an MBA in Economics from IE Business School, an MSc in Telecommunications and Economics from the University of London, and an Ingeniero Telecomunicación from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

European Data Protection Supervisor
The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) is the European Union’s independent data protection authority. We monitor and ensure the protection of personal data and privacy when EU institutions and bodies process the personal information of individuals. We advise EU institutions and bodies on all matters relating to the processing of personal information. We are consulted by the EU legislator on proposals for legislation and new policy development. We also cooperate with national supervisory authorities and other supervisory bodies to improve consistency in protecting personal information. In our supervisory role, we monitor and ensure that the EU institutions comply with data protection rules.
