Carlos Riano

Carlos Riano is a Forest & Land Use Expert at the European Forest Institute since September 2021, with extensive experience in forest monitoring and management. From August 2017 to September 2021, Riano served as a REDD+/MRV Technical Advisor for UNDP Cambodia, where responsibilities included overseeing the national forest monitoring system and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Paris Agreement. Prior roles include Country Technical Advisor and Technical Assistant at FAO, where Riano coordinated UN-REDD activities and contributed to international negotiations on forest management. Riano holds a Master's degree in Geo-information Science and Earth Observation from Universidad Mayor de San Simón and an Engineering degree from Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas.
