EFTA
Pétur Gunnarsson is an experienced professional in European Affairs, currently serving as the Head of EEA Policy Coordination at EFTA since March 2021, where responsibilities include providing services to the Standing Committee of the EFTA States and preparing EEA Joint Committee meetings. Previous roles include serving as an Officer and Secretary to the EFTA Consultative Committee, a Lecturer in European Integration at the University of Iceland, and a Political and Public Affairs Officer/Climate Attaché at the British Embassy in Reykjavík. Pétur has also worked as an Advisor on EU/EEA Affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland and has experience as a journalist and research assistant. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in EU Politics from The London School of Economics and ongoing PhD studies in European Foreign Policy at Maastricht University, complemented by studies at prestigious institutions including Columbia University and KU Leuven.

The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) is an intergovernmental organisation set up for the promotion of free trade and economic integration to the benefit of its four Member States Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. The Headquarters of the EFTA Secretariat in Geneva supplies services related to free trade and co-operation agreements with third countries. The Brussels Secretariat and the Luxembourg Office provide support in managing the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement.
