Chiara Bortoluzzi, Ph.D., has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Starting in 2008, they worked as a Summer Associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and later as a Trainee Lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2011.
In 2010, Chiara became a Researcher in European Law, EU Pharmaceutical Law, and Private Law at Université Panthéon Assas (Paris II). Chiara continued their research work as a Research Assistant to Professor Alberto Alemanno in 2013 at HEC Paris.
In 2013, they joined the European Commission's DG Health & Food Safety unit as part of the Substances of Human Origin and Tobacco Control team. Chiara started as a Regulatory Pharmaceutical Lawyer and then became a Legal Advisor and Anti-Fraud Examiner, eventually taking on the role of Head of General Affairs and Anti-Fraud Office ad interim. Currently, they serve as the Head of General Affairs and Anti-Fraud Office in the Legal Department.

Chiara Bortoluzzi, Ph.D., received their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees from Università di Pisa in 2010. Chiara then pursued a Master's degree (Research Track) in European Law at Paris-Pantheon-Assas University from 2009 to 2010. In 2011, Chiara obtained their Master of Laws (LL.M.) in European Law from the College of Europe. Chiara continued their academic journey and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in European Law from Paris-Pantheon-Assas University in 2017. Chiara also holds additional certifications, including admission to practice law as an Italian-qualified lawyer from the Ministero della Giustizia and certifications in Certified Data Protection Officer (DPO), Certified Fraud Examiner, and Certified Information Privacy Professional / Europe (CIPP/E).
